It’s finally moving day! What an exciting day especially for first time home buyers, but it can also be a stressful time that can feel out of control and chaotic at times.
It’s a no brainer, moving homes can be a stressful process. Whether you’re moving around the corner or relocating out of town, packing up your entire life is difficult and naturally comes with a lot of worries.
But, we have some good news, there are many things you can do to help make this time as stress-free as possible.
Want to know how? Here are some tips to help you move stress-free:
1. PREPARE HOME COOKED FOOD.
After a long day of moving, most of us would rather order takeaway or buy fast-food. This may be a quick fix, but this kind of food can leave you feeling sluggish. Instead, we recommend you prepare a home-cooked meal in advance that will be easy to reheat on moving day.
2. BOOK TIME OFF WORK
Moving is time-consuming and tiring, therefore take at least 3 days off work, one for the day before, one for the move, and another to unpack and get settled. You wouldn’t want to worry about finding work clothes on the day of the move.
Also, you will need time to unpack and rest, otherwise, it may lead to increased stress levels.
3. YOUR EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
If you are relocating to a substantial distance, moving home may be emotional not only for you but for your kids too. You will be leaving behind friends, family, so allow yourself the time and space to process your emotions.
To help, spend some time with friends and family before the move.
4. KNOW YOUR NEW AREA
If you are moving to a new location, i.e. you just bought a house at Nakuru Meadows and you are moving from Nairobi then get to know the area before you move.
To do this, look online and locate your nearest supermarket and petrol station, check out the nearest hospital, etc.
5. MAKE IT FEEL FAMILIAR
Sometimes one of the biggest stresses of relocating has little to do with the packing and moving process, and more to do with leaving familiarity behind. Being in a new environment, not having any friends or familiar things around.
We recommend you surround yourself with things that remind you of home or the people you left behind. Unpack personal possessions early, or that gift your mum or friend gave you for Christmas. This will make your new home feel more familiar.
6. CHOOSE YOUR MOVING COMPANY WISELY
While moving yourself is the more budget-friendly option, if you can afford it leave the hustle of moving to a professional moving company. It will be worth all the peace of mind and calmness it comes with.
We all agree moving can be a tiring process, both physically and emotionally, therefore anything that can reduce some of the stress is worthwhile.
However, make sure you choose the right moving company. Do a quick online search, read reviews or even ask for recommendations from colleagues and friends on some of the best moving companies around, it may take some time and effort on its own too, but it’s extremely necessary. You need to be certain that your furniture and valuables will be handled with the utmost care and professionalism.
